A new report from McKinsey predicts that AI could add as much as 4 Trillion dollars to the economy every year. + Meta announces they’re integrating AI in all their services.

A new report conducted by leading consulting firm McKinsey examined 850 jobs across 47 countries and estimates that generative AI could add somewhere between $2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy.

For reference, that’s more than the annual GDP of the United Kingdom (~ $3 trillion), Russia (~ $2 trillion), and Canada(~ $2 trillion).

The report states that McKinsey expects 75% of the value of generative AI to fall across 4 areas: Customer operations, marketing and sales, software engineering, and R&D.

Meta plans to put AI everywhere on its platforms

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to employees on Thursday that will see it put generative AI text, image and video generators into its flagship products, such as Facebook and Instagram.

Why it matters: Facebook's parent company has been at the forefront of generative AI research, but has been somewhat slow to put those technologies into its products.

  • One, for example, will allow customers to use a text prompt to modify their own photos and share them in Instagram Stories

  • Another will bring AI agents with different personalities and capabilities to help or entertain with a focus for use in Messenger and WhatsApp.
